Overview:
The Interpretive Services Intern is an integral member of Golden Spike's Interpretation and Education team and assists in offering a memorable and enjoyable visitor experience. This position requires front desk customer service at park Visitor Centers. The intern will provide information to visitors to ensure an enjoyable and safe trip. The intern will provide fee collection, operate AV equipment and open and close the building. The intern will develop and provide interpretive, educational, and school programs on park natural and cultural resources and produce Park communications through written and verbal means, social media, and press releases. The position will assist with special projects as they arise. The position requires working both inside and outdoors and may encounter various weather conditions outdoors.
Responsibilities:
Visitor Services intern positions may include some or all of the following responsibilities. Each park may have specific duties relevant to the park that are not listed here:
- Greet and orient park visitors
- Answer visitor questions and conduct public presentations on natural and cultural resource significance
- Provide safety and regulatory information, and conduct interpretive talks and guided walks while developing an in-depth knowledge of the park’s geology, history, plants, and wildlife
- Interns may collect fees and sell park-related association gifts, books, and merchandise in the visitor’s center and account for funds received.
- Interns will ensure park information pamphlets and other materials are well stocked in the visitor’s center.
Qualifications:
This position requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to enjoy working with individuals and groups of diverse backgrounds (public experience is helpful). Excellent writing skills, knowledge, or interest in regional geology, native tribes, ecology, history, etc., are essential for this position. The successful candidate should be excited about Public Lands and desire knowledge of the natural world.
